Chelsea transfer round-up: 'Pole position' for Tchouameni as Barcelona eye Blues loans

The January transfer window will likely be a fascinating one for Chelsea.

Although the Blues may be looking to move more players out than bring in, manager Thomas Tuchel may be tempted by an addition or two so the team can continue their exciting push for silverware on multiple fronts.

While Chelsea are blessed with multiple high-class options in most positions, given the fine margins between the top teams in the Premier League this season another quality player could prove to be the difference in what's shaping up to be an absorbing title race.

Mirror Sport has all of your latest Chelsea transfer news.

Blues 'on pole' for Tchouameni

According to Tutto Juve (h/t Sport Witness ), Chelsea have found themselves "on pole" in the race for Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

The France international has excelled for the Ligue 1 outfit this season and has looked at home when representing his country on the international stage too.

Chelsea are said to be one of a number of clubs keeping tabs on him, with Juventus reportedly the other leaders in the chase.

Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also said to be names in the frame, with Monaco valuing the playmaker at £42.6 million (€50 million).

Jorginho on Chelsea choice

Blues midfielder Jorginho has said Maurizio Sarri was key to him choosing to join Chelsea over Manchester City.

The Italian international has enjoyed an incredible 2021, becoming a European champion with both club and country. Jorginho is among the favourites to win the Ballon d'Or at the end of the year too.

However, in 2018 Jorginho appeared to be on the cusp of moving to City before Sarri, who he worked with at Napoli, managed to convince him to make the switch to Stamford Bridge instead.

"I had worked with Sarri for three years, so when he wanted me at Chelsea… I had started talks with Manchester City, I could see myself there," he told France Football (h/t Sport Witness ).

"But, well, Chelsea insisted, and today I’m very happy here. Especially after such an incredible year in 2021. It’s absolutely surreal."

Barcelona consider Chelsea trio

According to Sport (h/t Metro ), Barcelona will make a loan offer for one of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech or Callum Hudson-Odoi if they fail to land Raheem Sterling in January.

Sterling is said to be a top target for the Catalan giants, although given Barcelona's dire financial situation it's suggested any permanent signing might be tough to get over the line.

As a result, they are said to be eyeing up one of the aforementioned Chelsea players. Pulisic has recently returned from an injury layoff, while Hudson-Odoi has been making a case for more first-team minutes with some encouraging performances as of late.

Ziyech has been linked with a possible exit, with Borussia Dortmund recently linked with a move for him.
