Chelsea transfer news and rumours: Ousmane Dembele latest, left-back search and new signing

Chelsea are set up for a very interesting end to the January transfer window as Thomas Tuchel weighs up where to improve his squad.

A new left-back remains a priority despite the Blues landing a defender as their first and so far only signing of the month.

But there is always the potential for a big name to land at the Bridge with Ousmane Dembele of Barcelona reportedly a target, along with Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio.

Here, we run you through the latest Chelsea transfer news and rumours...

Thomas Tuchel remains a fan of the French winger after a year together at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea are keeping track of his scenario, according to Standard Sport’s James Robson.

Barcelona want the player to leave this month after talks over a new contract collapsed, although that is most likely to be a loan exit.

The Blues currently favour a summer move for Dembele, when he would be a free agent, with the squad currently well-stocked for wide forwards.

Three separate attempts by Chelsea to recall the left-back from Lyon have failed, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The latest involved a compensation fee of £3.35million, due to the deal with the French side not involving a recall clause for the Blues.

Emerson is said to want to return to Chelsea whereas alternative targets Layvin Kurzawa and Ivan Perisic are no longer on the club’s radar.

Borna Sosa

Croatia international Sosa could be the answer to Chelsea’s left-back woe, if they can stump up £25million.

Stuttgart are demanding the fee after an approach from Aston Villa fell through, with Inter Milan also watching the situation.

Despite the Blues’ need for a defender now, Sky Germany insist that a summer deal is most likely for the player.

Marco Asensio

Real Madrid are said to be considering a deal to sell Asensio after he fell behind Vinicius Junior in the team’s pecking order.

Defensa Central name Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain as two clubs who have made contacted with the LaLiga giants over a potential transfer.

But Madrid will only contemplate letting the Spaniard go once the season is over.

Dylan Williams

Chelsea’s first transfer signing of the month was confirmed on Monday, as teenager Williams signed from Derby.

The 18-year-old defender broke into the Rams first-team this season and is a left-back, the position which Tuchel is intent on reinforcing.

But it is thought Williams will not be thrust into senior action at Stamford Bridge, as he looks to adapt via the Under-23s squad.

Armando Broja

Southampton loanee Broja is being watched by West Ham in their hunt for a new striker.

Football Insider detail plans from David Moyes’ side to test the water by contacting Chelsea over a permanent transfer, while website Hammers News has claimed that there is a strong likelihood of the deal coming off.

It is said that West Ham recruitment chief Rob Newman personally scouted Broja during Southampton’s 4-1 win over Brentford earlier this month - and the Saints also want to do a deal over a longer stay on the South Coast.

Antonio Rudiger

Rudiger has jetted off to Sierra Leone for some charity work during the winter break, amid speculation over his future.

Real Madrid are said by Marca to have ended their interest in the German due to his high salary demands.

Bild name Bayern Munich as one of the teams plotting a summer contract offer when Rudiger becomes a free agent, along with a potential move for Andreas Christensen.
