Chelsea suffer N'Golo Kante injury setback ahead of Super Cup clash with Liverpool

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has revealed that N'Golo Kante picked up another injury during the Premier League opener against Manchester United on Sunday.

The France World Cup winner played just a small portion of pre-season season, coming on as a late substitute in the final pre-season match of the summer at Borussia Monchendgladbach.

He also came on as a late sub in the 4-0 defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday as well, after recovering from a knee injury before the Europa League final back in May.

The 28-year-old would have been hoping to play a part in the game, and that might be the case after taking part in the pre-Super Cup training.

However, Lampard admitted that it will be a last-minute decision, saying: "Kante we need to make a decision on him.

"He has a small injury which we are concerned about and we will have to decide with him on that this evening. Can he play or not. He’s had a very broken pre-season.

"With Willian and Antonio Rudiger are here with us. They are also in different stages. Willian is not far from being fit but his injury has healed. It will be a risk to play him in a high intensity match. We have to be careful with him. He will be on the bench tomorrow and we’ll see if he will come on.

"Rudiger – it’s similar with him. They are feeling good, we have one more step to get to where we want them to be. It is very important that all of the players are here because they got us here."
