Chelsea stars deliver verdict on £53m Timo Werner transfer with Instagram message

Chelsea are close to sealing a deal for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner after holding extensive talks with the Bundesliga outfit.

After a quiet January transfer window in which Frank Lampard was desperate to sign attacking reinforcements, the Blues had didn't manage to make a single signing.

However, they did manage to confirm the signing of Ajax playmaker Hakim Ziyech shortly after deadline day.

And the Morocco international is set to be joined at Stamford Bridge next season by Werner.

Manchester United and Liverpool were also interested in signing the Germany international, but football.london understands Frank Lampard's side are in pole position to close a deal.

The Blues are ready to activate the Germany striker's £53million release clause before it expires on June 15, and are in negotiations over personal terms, with a five-year deal expected to be offered.

With a deal appearing to be close, Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga have taken to social media to deliver their verdict on the transfer.

On Instagram, the account @433 posted a picture of Werner in a Chelsea shirt with the caption: 'BREAKING: @timowerner has reportedly agreed to join @chelseafc on a permanent transfer'.

And the aforementioned Blues pair have seemingly given their approval to the deal, by liking the picture.

When speaking in the April 2018 issue of FourFourTwo, Werner confirmed his Premier League dream and also revealed his preference to play for either Man United or Liverpool or an unnamed third club.

"Yes, playing in the Premier League is a dream for me. I would like to play for two or three clubs, and Manchester United are one of those clubs.

"But probably not in the next few years – later, when my English is a little bit better! I’m very comfortable at RB Leipzig, though."
