Chelsea sent reassuring Christian Pulisic injury message as USMNT confirm Nations League plan

Christian Pulisic will make his return to the USMNT for the first time since the Qatar World Cup this month. The Chelsea forward was named in Anthony Hudson's 24-man squad for the CONCACAF Nations League fixtures with Grenada and El Salvador.

The U.S favourite has recently marked his comeback to action this month after being sidelined since January. Pulisic sustained a knee injury in the Premier League defeat to Manchester City before returning for the Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund.

Following doubts across the pond that the 24-year-old would be fit enough to be named in Hudson's squad this month, Pulisic was named by the interim boss on Wednesday afternoon alongside 12 other members of Gregg Berhalter's World Cup squad.

Pulisic is the most capped member of the 24-man squad with 56 appearances and strengthens the Yanks' chances of progressing to the Nations League finals and securing their spot in the summer's Gold Cup. And after the squad was announced, Hudson had nothing but good words for the Chelsea attacker.

"Christian is one of our top, top players and all I can say about Christian as well is that this is a guy that deeply, deeply cares about the national team," he told reporters. "Having been with a team for three years or so this last cycle, I went over to England recently, and I think one thing I've just seen over time is a young man that is maturing every time, getting a strong mentality.

"His approach to the national team, I think it's everything you would want from a top player like Christian. He believes in the national team, wants soccer to grow in this country, wants to inspire kids in this country, wants the national team to be a serious contender on the international level.

"That much I can say about him. We are really, really fortunate to have him coming back because he's an influential and inspiring person for other players."

Since returning to the field with Chelsea, Pulisic has featured for 24 minutes. This weekend's clash with Everton presents one final chance for the winger to clock up further minutes before reuniting with his compatriots.

Hudson has declared his awareness of managing Pulisic's minutes and confirmed the nation will remain in communication with Graham Potter's side. "We're currently in communication with clubs," he said.

"We want to make sure that the players that returned from injury and have had limited minutes coming in, we just want to make sure, in partnership with clubs, that we do the right thing for the player. We'll get all that information before we get into camp.

"Those conversations are happening right now and, then when we have that information, we can make the best possible decision we can for a player in terms of minutes or starts or how many minutes he can play."
