Chelsea's Mauricio Pochettino plan revealed, Victor Osimhen transfer interest and new goalkeeper

DavidByrom said: "Hi Bobby, realistically, do you think it's just a striker that Pochettino will want in order to improve Chelsea? Or will we see another busy transfer window?"

Bobby: "Hi David. A striker will surely be top of the club's agenda this summer. We saw last night [against Brentford on Wednesday] with the line-up, there were no central strikers – or anyone like that – to be seen. Christopher Nkunku is coming but it remains to be seen where he will be predominantly played. A striker is definitely an area that is being looked at, though, with Victor Osimhen one of numerous names being considered.

"I don't think it will be extremely busy in terms of incomings like the previous two windows – that's just not sustainable. I think we will see a lot of outgoings, though, with plenty of players either entering the final year or two years of their contracts."

Adbrod said: "In hindsight, do you think letting Graham Potter go was the right decision? Surely a less-than-ideal manager is better for the stability of the squad than constant change?"

Bobby: "Hi Adbrod. It's difficult to answer that question properly because we haven't even seen the person who is going to replace him yet. I think the lack of progress Potter made during his spell at the club definitely sent red flags. That said, I don't think the side's form was solely down to him.

"I think there needed to be a change, so sacking Potter, in my opinion, was the right thing to do. However, bringing in Frank Lampard until the end of the season perhaps wasn't the wisest move. And that is easy to say in hindsight but it did bemuse me slightly at the time as well. But like you said, the constant change is not good for anyone. More stability is definitely needed."

Mouhchrif98 said: "Hi Bobby. Is there a possibility to bring in a new coach now?"

Bobby: "Hi Mouhchrif98. There is of course a possibility to bring in a new coach now. Everything we've heard re Pochettino suggests it will be an end of the season move. Why would he even want to associate himself with this season?

"Negotiations are still going on behind the scenes with Pochettino and if the club are in desperate need to appoint him now for the remainder of the season then they will definitely be asking him about that. It's down to Pochettino, really, because if he doesn't want to come in now and would prefer to take over in the summer, then Chelsea will wait for him. They feel he's the right man to spearhead their long-term vision."

ThePudding1 said: "Although we have signed a huge number of players, there are still obvious holes in the squad at striker, defensive midfield and goalkeeper. Pochettino will no doubt have players in mind, but will he actually have any money to spend, given our projected problems with FFP?"

Bobby: "Hi ThePudding. Those three areas you mentioned are definitely ones being considered by the club. The recruitment team have been doing extensive research on goalkeepers. David Raya, Dean Henderson, Gregor Kobel and Jordan Pickford are names I've been told about.

"Defensive midfield alike, there are a number of names and I still wouldn't rule out a move for Declan Rice. See my comment on Victor Osimhen regarding strikers. Anyway, there are going to be a whole host of players leaving this summer to hopefully balance out the books somewhat regarding FFP. The money will be there for Pochettino to spend should the club be able to offload the players they don't think have a future."

Osgood said: "David Fofana looked good, so why have Potter and Lampard not used him?"

Bobby: "Hi Osgood. It's a good question and one I cannot give you a definitive answer to. When Fofana was signed in January, the club very much viewed him as one for the future. There was plenty of interest in him in January for a loan move but the club kept him, so that said to many fans that he would be used more than he has been.

"That hasn't been the case, though, as you've pointed out. It's similar to Noni Madueke, I feel, but even less so in this instance. The summer is an interesting one for Fofana. A loan move could be on the cards depending on what the new head coach has in store for him."
