Chelsea's Matthijs de Ligt personal terms offer revealed as Todd Boehly outmuscles Bayern Munich

Juventus defender Matthijs De Ligt would reportedly favour a Premier League move over the Bundesliga as Chelsea look to edge Bayern Munich in this transfer race with their lucrative personal terms offer which has been tabled.

The 22-year-old's future looks to be away from Serie A for 2022/23 as contract negotiations between Juventus and de Ligt's representatives broke down due to the unhappiness of the player in seeing both AC Milan and Inter Milan dominate the league in recent times. Now, Chelsea and Bayern Munich have emerged as the two main candidates who want Juve's number 4 to join their respective projects- both clubs' interest coming from their managers Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann respectively.

The Blues for such a long time looked like having a free run at signing Virgil van Dijk's international partner but German reports had revealed that the Bavarians had also opened talks over the big-money signing which would compound the Ousmane Dembélé and Raphinha blows that have already been suffered this summer under interim sporting director Boehly. So far, Chelsea have had various offers rejected already which have included several player trade deals with Jorginho, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic reportedly added into the negotiations. The Old Lady want straight cash as they value their Giorgio Chiellini heir at around £86million but could still accept a fee of around £64m due to the player in questions desire to move on, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Whether or not either of the two teams can negotiate a more palatable fee remains to be seen but the Blues will be assessing all their options as to how they can gain an advantage over the current Bundesliga champions.

And it seems that the financial power of Boehly and the Clearlake Capital consortium could help Chelsea win this specific transfer battle. The size of personal terms could sway the pendulum their way.

Italian outlet La Stampa have reported that alongside offering De Ligt a five-year contract, £9m in wages have been tabled as Tuchel's side look to flex their financial muscles. If for some reason, the former Ajax prodigy was to snub Chelsea, Kalidou Koulibaly and Jules Kounde will reportedly be pursued.
