Here are the Chelsea morning headlines for Saturday, August 22.
Blues hope on double deal this week
Chelsea are closing in on signing two more players this week to add to the completed deals for Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
As per the Daily Star, the club are hopeful on securing deals for Leicester City full-back Ben Chilwell and Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Kai Havertz this week.
It is claimed that the deal for England international Chilwell is likely to be completed in the region of £50million, although the club are still hopeful of negotiating down Havertz’s asking price of £90m.
The club’s chief Marina Granovskaia is set for a busy few weeks as Chelsea aim to reshape their squad ahead of next season.
Chelsea blow on defender pursuit
Chelsea have suffered a blow with the news that Brighton & Hove Albion captain Lewis Dunk has penned a new five-year deal at the club.
The 28-year-old is Albion’s player of the year and he had been an option for the Blues this summer as they look to bolster the heart of their defence.
Capped once by England, it was claimed that Dunk would be an affordable and realistic target for the club instead of raiding West Ham United for Declan Rice and could cost £40m.
Thiago Silva, who leaves Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent this summer, could be an alternative at Stamford Bridge this summer.
Palace in for Bakayoko
Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko looks certain to leave Stamford Bridge this summer and Crystal Palace have now emerged as a contender for his signature.
That is according to a report in Calcio Mercato, who say that both Palace and Fulham have joined Milan in the race for the Frenchman.
Bakayoko has spent the last two campaigns on loan at the Italian giants and Monaco having underwhelmed in the 2017/18 campaign at the Blues.
He now appears set for a permanent exit this summer.
