Chelsea monitor Dayot Upamecano amid Matthijs de Ligt and Jules Kounde interest

Chelsea want to sign at least two defenders this summer, with Matthijs de Ligt, Jules Kounde and Dayot Upamecano all of interest.

New co-owner Todd Boehly has held talks with Juventus centre-back De Ligt but is aware of stiff competition from Bayern Munich.

De Ligt’s arrival at Bayern could see Upamecano leave, which is a situation now being monitored by Chelsea.

Chelsea have held extensive talks with Kounde, but the Sevilla defender appears to be seen as an alternative to De Ligt despite almost joining last summer under the previous owner Roman Abramovich.

Therefore, any further approach for Kounde could depend on the outcome of talks to sign De Ligt.

Chelsea on Saturday reached an agreement with Manchester City to make Raheem Sterling their first summer signing in a deal worth up to £50million.

Sterling, who is now set to undergo a medical, is set to join up with the squad for their tour of the United States.
