Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher set for Crystal Palace loan switch after completing medical

Crystal Palace are closing in on the loan signing of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

Standard Sport understands that the England Under-21 international underwent a medical on Sunday ahead of season-long switch to Selhurst Park.

Gallagher featured as a second-half replacement for new signing Hakim Ziyech during Chelsea's 1-1 pre-season friendly draw against Brighton at Amex Stadium on Saturday.

The 20-year-old will now hope to make a smooth transition to regular Premier League football after impressing on loan in the Championship last season.

Gallagher scored six goals in 26 appearances for Charlton during the first half of the 2019/20 campaign before being recalled and sent back on loan to Swansea during the January transfer window.

The Chelsea academy graduate then helped Steve Cooper's side to reach the second-tier play-offs, where they lost to Brentford in the semi-finals.

Gallagher made a further 21 appearances for Swansea, netting seven times.

He will become Crystal Palace's third signing of the summer following last week's £19.5million deal for QPR winger Eberechi Eze, who made his debut during Saturday's 3-0 win over rivals Charlton.

Full-back Nathan Ferguson also joined on a three-year contract in July after leaving West Brom.
