Graham Potter has outlined his biggest challenge at Chelsea ahead of his first Premier League in the job.
The new manager was appointed almost a month ago but has been in the dugout just once due to postponements around the Queen's death and then the international break.
Potter's sole game in charge for a frustrating draw with RB Salzburg in the Champions League, and now the new man faces up to a hectic schedule, his biggest concern at the moment.
"We've got six weeks and 13 matches," he told reporters. "[I must] use the players the right way and win matches in the toughest league in the world. That's the challenge in the short term."
Asked if the long wait has been a positive or a negative, Potter replied: "Probably a bit of both if I'm honest. I'm used to a bit of time to get to know people but at the same time we're itching to play.
"We couldn't control anything in terms of how things have panned out, we've had to make the most of it."
Standard Sport understands Potter has been told to secure a top-four finish this season, though his job would not neccessarily be under threat should be fail.
Asked about his aims for the season, and if top four was “vital”, the manager was keen to focus on the here and now rather than further down the line.
He continued: "The resources, or history doesn't guarantee you anything in this league. It's about getting everything lined up and everyone working together and the strategy clear.
"Vital sounds a bit life or death and a bit dramatic. I can't control people's perception or what we're looking at in May, I only focus on the next game or next session."
