Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard speaks out on Arsenal sacking Unai Emery

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has described it as a "shame" to see Unai Emery leave Arsenal.

The Spaniard was sacked by Arsenal this morning (Friday), following the Gunners' 2-1 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt last night (Thursday) in the Champions League.

His 18-month spell in charge of the Gunners came to an end after a winless run of seven games in all competitions, with Arsenal currently sitting eighth in the Premier League, 19 points behind the leaders Liverpool.

Arsenal are also eight points behind Chelsea in fourth, and Lampard had a message for the now-former Gunners head coach following the decision to sack him.

"I wouldn't say inevitable, nothing's inevitable in football," he said, when asked about Emery's exit.

"We're used to a few surprises, especially in the last few weeks.

"It's not nice I know the job, I work hard here and everyone wants to be successful. You have a work ethic and an idea, and it doesn't always go the way you want it, and clubs then make a decision. We're all in that category.

"It's a shame because from the outside he looks like a man who gave everything in the role, and he moves on."

Attention now turns to who will replace Emery at Arsenal, with former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri reported to be among the leading contenders for the role.

But Lampard said he did not know much about him, when asked about the Italian and what he could bring to the Gunners.
