Chelsea handed major concern as Timo Werner ruled out of Germany clash

Chelsea striker Timo Werner has been ruled out of Germany's clash with Turkey.

Germany's assistant manager Marcus Sorg has revealed that Werner will sit out of friendly clash this evening after developing flu-like symptoms.

Werner has undergone coronavirus tests but the results are yet to return, leaving both Chelsea and Germany sweating on the results.

"Timo Werner has a slight cold and won’t join up with the team today," Sorg said at a press conference on Tuesday.

"Several tests have been done, but the results are not in yet."

Germany do still have another two games after the Turkey friendly in this international break, against Ukraine and Switzerland in the Nations League.

And Werner could yet feature in those games depending on his recovery and, of course, the results of his tests.

Werner's Chelsea teammate Kai Havertz is expected to play against Turkey, Sorg saying: "He is a player who can always raise our game.

"So I think he will definitely be starting tomorrow."

Havertz, still only 21, has already racked up seven Germany caps, while Werner has 31 caps to his name, scoring 12 times on the international stage.
