Chelsea handed huge fine over FA agent rules breach – here’s what we know

  • Chelsea have been fined £10m and received a suspended two-window transfer ban after admitting 74 breaches of Football Association agent rules.
  • The breaches primarily occurred between the 2010/11 and 2015/16 seasons under Roman Abramovich's ownership, involving the use of unauthorised agents and submission of false documentation.
  • The club's new owners self-reported these historical instances in 2022, leading to investigations by the FA , Premier League, and Uefa.
  • An initial six-point deduction, which was suspended until 2027, was successfully appealed and subsequently replaced by the suspended transfer ban.
  • This FA ruling, alongside previous fines from the Premier League (£10.75m) and a settlement with Uefa (£8.6m), brings the total financial penalties for these historical matters to £29.35m, with the club confirming all regulatory proceedings are now closed.
