Chelsea and Leicester City have been charged by the Football Association following an injury-time clash which saw players and staff from both sides involved.
Tempers were high at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, with both sides battling it out for a Premier League top-four finish just three days after Leicester beat Chelsea in the FA Cup Final at Wembley.
Daniel Amartey has previously caused controversy after being filmed throwing a Chelsea pennant in the changing room during Leicester’s post-match celebrations - and Chelsea got the last laugh by winning 2-1 at the Bridge to leave the Foxes fifth heading into the final game of the season.
While Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel played down the pennant incident, Antonio Rudiger says his team were out to “punish” Leicester for the “disrespect” shown by Amartey.
In Tuesday’s League game, players from both teams were involved in an injury-time altercation after Ricardo Pereira challenged Ben Chilwell. Amartey - an unused substitute - was booked for his part in the drama, and Chelsea and Leicester now face an FA charge regarding the incident.
An FA statement read: “Chelsea FC and Leicester City FC have both been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 following their Premier League fixture on Tuesday 18 May 2021.
“It is alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or club officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour during the 93rd minute.
“Chelsea FC and Leicester City FC both have until Tuesday 25 May 2021 to provide their respective responses.”
