Chelsea evening headlines as Thomas Tuchel nears first signing and Shearer aims dig at Werner

Here are your Chelsea evening headlines for Monday, February 8.

Thomas Tuchel inches closer to first signing

Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement with the agent of Jerome Boateng to sign the Bayern Munich defender.

The Blues have been linked with the 32-year-old, who will be a free agent this summer, for quite some time now.

The German centre-back is not the only Bayern star linked with an exit from the Bundesliga side as team-mate David Alaba is understood to be sought after by a host of European giants, including Chelsea.

But the Boateng transfer may be closer to being concluded, as according to Todofichajes these talks with Chelsea have progressed and it’s claimed they have now reached an agreement over a deal for him to move to Stamford Bridge.

It adds that if nothing goes wrong, Boateng will arrive at the London outfit this summer and become Thomas Tuchel's first signing at the club.

Gary Lineker praises Chelsea star

The Match of the Day pundit says the future of English football is bright, thanks to the likes of Mason Mount and Manchester City's Phil Foden.

Chelsea star Mount helped the Blues secure a third successive win under new boss Thomas Tuchel with their 2-1 victory against Sheffield United on Sunday night.

The 22-year-old is the second-youngest player to score 10 Premier League goals for Chelsea, after Arjen Robben (who was 21 at the time).

The midfield maestro has scored four goals and provided six assists in all competitions and has arguably been Chelsea's player this season.

And Foden, 20, helped take apart defending champions Liverpool in Manchester City's 4-1 win against Jurgen Klopp's side on Sunday evening.

Foden has also shone this season, with 10 goals and six assists in all competitions.

And their respective performances have caught the eye of former Spurs striker Lineker.

He tweeted that England have so many "classy" young footballers and it was great to see them thriving in the Premier League.

Dig at Timo Werner?

Alan Shearer has said Chelsea need to sign a top centre forward in the summer.

This is despite the Blues spending £47m on Timo Werner from RB Leipzig last summer.

The 24-year-old has scored four goals, and provided seven assists, in 22 Premier League games.

He is yet to capture the form he showed at the Bundesliga club last time.

And Newcastle legend Shearer thinks the club need a new striker to fire in the goals.

“He’s [Tuchel] given everyone an opportunity,” Shearer said on Match of the Day 2, via the Mirror.

“He didn’t play [Mason] Mount in the first game, he’s swapped it over with [Ben] Chilwell and [Marcos] Alonso, [Olivier] Giroud has been in there, he’s changed the system slightly.

"He’s given everyone the opportunity to impress him.

“They’ll challenge for fourth but I think to go to the next level they’ll need a top centre forward.”
