Chelsea evening headlines as Sancho is sent message and Lampard excited about transfer window

Here are the latest Chelsea headlines for Monday, June 1.

Frank Lampard eager to strengthen squad

Frank Lampard is looking to add new faces to his Chelsea squad this summer after a quiet January window.

The Chelsea boss was hampered by a transfer ban last summer, and despite the ban being lifted in January the club did not seek to add any first-team players.

The club did later secure a deal for Hakim Ziyech to join this summer, but the lack of January activity has put greater emphasis on the upcoming window, with Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho expected to be a prime target for the club.

Chelsea Q&A with Oliver Harbord

Speaking to Chelsea’s official magazine, Lampard explained: “I’m certainly excited about the squad we’ve got, with the young players and if we can get a few additions for areas I feel we need.

“We didn’t bring in anyone in January, it didn’t work out to be right for us at the time, and last summer we couldn’t bring anyone in, so those windows are gone, and we haven’t changed.

“So I am excited about the squad we’ve got if we can freshen up in the right areas we all know that.”

Hudson-Odoi and Rudiger send messages to Chelsea transfer target Sancho

A number of Bundesliga players have been showing their support for George Floyd over the weekend.

The United States has seen rioting across the country in response to the death of Floyd during an arrest by police in Minneapolis.

One of the most prominent messages from the weekend arrived via Jadon Sancho, who displayed a ‘Justice for George Lloyd’ t-shirt after scoring for Borussia Dortmund.

That saw Callum Hudson-Odoi and Antonio Rudiger respond by sharing a photograph of Sancho’s message on their Instagram pages.

Club rejects cash plus player deal for star

Fiorentina have informed Chelsea they will not accept a player exchange as part of a deal for Federico Chiesa.

Chiesa, 22, is reportedly a target for Chelsea, with Monday’s Gazzetta dello Sport linking the player with a move to Stamford Bridge.

The club are said to want €70million for the attacker, and they’ve been keen to stress that there will not be a discount.

They’ve also added that they won’t be accepting players in exchange for Chiesa, with any deal requiring cash and nothing else.

Quite how that impacts Chelsea’s plan remains to be seen.
