Chelsea evening headlines as Jamie Carragher warns Frank Lampard, Alan Shearer's selection claim

Here are your Chelsea evening headlines on Tuesday, December 22.

Shearer makes Abraham claim

Alan Shearer has called on Chelsea boss Frank Lampard to start Tammy Abraham is Saturday's clash with Arsenal, after the striker's brace against West Ham United.

The Blues returned to winning ways with a 3-0 over the Hammers on Monday evening, with Thiago Silva opening the scoring before Abraham netted twice.

The England forward started ahead of the in-form Olivier Giroud for the home side at Stamford Bridge, with Lampard's decision perhaps raising a few eyebrows.

However, it paid off - and Shearer has now told the Chelsea boss what he needs to do on Saturday.

Frank Lampard happy to see Tammy Abraham back in the goals

“He [Lampard] has to [play Abraham against Arsenal],” Shearer said to Premier League Productions.

“When you are a striker to have scored two when the manager was practically begging you to do that, in the end you got to prove a point, you can’t then leave him out of the next game when he is full of confidence."

Pundit notices what Silva did after goal

Garth Crooks has praised Thiago Silva for what he did after opening the scoring against West Ham on Monday night.

Silva was once again looking very assured at the heart of the Chelsea back-line, like he has done since arriving to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Crooks noticed something that the experienced Brazilian defender did after scoring his goal on Monday and shared it when writing in his BBC Sport column.

"The way Silva attacked the ball was ferocious and the header flew into the back of the net like a bullet," the pundit said. "He looks so assured in defence and seems to have adapted to the new handball rules especially well, taking a driven shot at the Chelsea goal in the stomach with his hands firmly behind his back.

"There was no way he was going to give a penalty away. Now that's defending."

Carragher sends Lampard warning

Jamie Carragher believes Kai Havertz does not fit into Chelsea's best midfield, and that Frank Lampard needs to find a different role for his big-money signing.

Lampard has used a 4-3-3 for the majority of the season so far, leaving no obvious role for Havertz, who is used to playing as a number 10 or a false nine.

Carragher said on Monday Night Football: "It hasn’t been easy, in a new country and he had COVID as well early in the season. I said earlier in the season, sometimes players fall into that category where you’re not quite sure where they fit in.

"I think for Frank, he’s probably not quite sure himself. He spent a lot of money on him so you’ve got to find a position for him in some ways. But for me, Chelsea look a lot stronger with (N'Golo) Kanté, (Mason) Mount, and one other. When I say one other, I mean either Jorginho or (Mateo) Kovacic.

"It just looks a lot stronger as a midfield and I still feel Chelsea, Frank, they’re waiting to see what type of player Havertz really is and where he fits into this Chelsea team, into the system Frank wants to play.”
