Chelsea evening headlines as Blues make Chilwell 'breakthrough' and Havertz status confirmed

Here are the latest Chelsea evening headlines for Wednesday, August 5.

Chelsea aiming to sign Chilwell after breakthrough

Chelsea are moving a step closer towards signing Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell, according to Football Insider .

Chilwell, 23, has enjoyed a strong season with the Foxes and has been seen as the perfect man to cure Frank Lampard’s issues at left-back.

Now, Football Insider claim a source at Stamford Bridge the Blues are hopeful of concluding a deal for the England international. Leicester had initially demanded £80million for the defender, but Chelsea have already managed to negotiate that down.

Peter Bosz confirms Kai Havertz status against Rangers

Kai Havertz is available for selection during Bayer play in Leverkusen’s Europa League round of 16-second leg against Rangers on Thursday evening, according to head coach Peter Bosz.

Havertz, 21, has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, and the German international is said to be keen on relocating to the Premier League.

As yet, the two sides have not agreed a fee, and it was unclear whether Leverkusen would risk playing Havertz for fear of injury.

So far the 21-year-old has played a role in the club’s training, and Bosz confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Havertz is in the squad.

“If I need players tomorrow who may be at risk of being suspended, they will still play,” the head coach said. “Our focus is only on getting through.”

Chelsea reject the chance to sign Nathan Ake

Chelsea have turned down the opportunity to match Manchester City’s £41million bid for Nathan Ake, according to TalkSPORT .

The Dutch defender left Chelsea in 2017 to join Bournemouth in a deal estimated to be worth £20milion. As part of the negotiation, Chelsea included a clause that would allow them to match any bid the Cherries accepted.

Consequently, Bournemouth were duty-bound to notify Chelsea that they had accepted a £41million offer from Manchester City for the defender. Frank Lampard’s side opted not to match it, however, clearing the way for Ake to join Manchester City.

Lampard is in the market for defensive reinforcements.
