Chelsea confirmed starting XI vs Newcastle: Hall and Broja start, Silva bench, Sterling out

Graham Potter has made four changes to his Chelsea side to face Newcastle United at St James' Park. Raheem Sterling is absent from the squad as the most noteworthy exclusion. The winger suffered from migraines and was unable to travel with the rest of the squad.

Thiago Silva remains out of Potter's starting XI and Cesar Azpilicueta comes into the side in the place of Marc Cucurella. Lewis Hall retains his place in the Blues' starting lineup after impressing against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup and Potter did not hold back in his praise, despite the defeat.

He said: "I really enjoyed his performance. He took responsibility, took the ball in tight areas, attacked the box, and could’ve scored a couple of goals on another day. So it was a really nice performance, a mature performance I thought. He is a quiet lad but goes about his work. I’ve been really impressed with him.”

Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana and N'Golo Kante all remain out but Jorginho heads straight into the Blues' starting XI after missing the trip to the Etihad through injury. The Italian international trained on Friday and appears to have come through that well. Denis Zakaria takes a place on the bench.

Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher, fresh from call-ups to the England World Cup squad replaced Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech while Armando Broja starts up front once again.

Chelsea XI: Mendy; Azpilicueta, Chalobah, Koulibaly; Loftus-Cheek, Kovacic, Jorginho, Hall; Mount, Gallagher, Broja.

Substitutes: Bettinelli, Cucurella, Thiago Silva, Zakaria, Hutchinson, Pulisic, Ziyech, Aubameyang, Havertz.
