Chelsea Clinton and her husband announced on Saturday the birth of their second child, a son named Aidan, the second grandchild of Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee for president.

The younger Clinton and her husband, Marc Mezvinsky, said in a statement that they were “overwhelmed with gratitude and love as we celebrate the birth of our son”.

Clinton, 36, is the only child of the former secretary of state and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, and lived in the White House from the age of 12 to 20. Her first child, Charlotte, was born in September 2014.

“We are overjoyed to be grandparents again with the arrival of our grandson, Aidan Clinton Mezvinsky, born on Saturday, June 18, 2016,” Bill and Hillary Clinton said in a statement.

“We are all over the moon as Chelsea and Marc welcome Charlotte’s little brother to the world and grateful for our many blessings. Chelsea and Aidan are both doing well and enjoying this very special time together.”

Mevinsky, a 38-year-old investment banker, went to Stanford University a few years before his future wife attended the school. Like her he was born into a political family: his father and mother served in Congress, representing Iowa and Pennsylvania respectively.

The Clinton family has spent much of the last few months on the campaign trail as Hillary Clinton clinched the Democratic nomination. But the family had no rallies or organizing events scheduled on Thursday or Friday, nor for Father’s Day weekend.

Clinton, 68, periodically raises her experience as a grandmother on the campaign trail, invoking it when she talks about paid family leave and early education. Her campaign also briefly tried to use that experience to reach young and Latino voters, creating a page titled: “7 things Hillary Clinton has in common with your abuela”.
