Chelsea board 'split' on Graham Potter sacking decision as players' true feelings 'revealed'

Chelsea boss Graham Potter appears to be facing a battle to keep his job in the short-term as pressure mounts over his tenure at Stamford Bridge. football.london understands Potter still has the backing of Todd Boehly and the board, but that will not last forever if results continue to end in defeat.

With the Blues sitting tenth in the Premier League, there's hope that a strong end to the season could see the side in some form of European competition next campaign, while the management staff could continue the process of seeing out the new ownership's philosophy. Potter did reveal that he had a meeting with the board on Friday over his position, claiming he has to stay focused on victory over Leeds this weekend.

He told reporters ahead of the game: "There is support and, of course, I've spoken to them. But I'm not going to hide behind that. The results haven't been good enough for us and I'm responsible for that. When you're a coach, if the results are good you accept the criticism and noise that comes with it. My job is to stay with the team, stay focused, try to prepare the team as well as I can, and win the game tomorrow."

Some reports have dubbed the match at Stamford Bridge one of two "make or break" fixtures, with a Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund following after. While speculation is rife over the former Brighton coach's position, doubts continue over whether there is a long-term future for him.

The Daily Mail is the latest to add to that, reporting that the Chelsea board is "split" over whether the boss should stay onwards, with some in the board said to be unconvinced that he can turn things around. The Chelsea dressing room is also said to have "mixed feelings" on the future under Potter.

The manager is yet to lose support from his players though, with the need to pick up results in the next few weeks to quiet talks over his future.
