Chelsea announce pre-season friendly as Alonso set for historic match

Chelsea have confirmed the final match of their pre-season tour of Asia and Oceania.

The Blues head to Australia, Hong Kong and Indonesia for their first pre-season tour under new manager Xabi Alonso, who begins his role on July 1 following his appointment last Sunday.

And now Chelsea have released details of a match in Malaysia that will mark the end of their tour.

On Tuesday, August 11 at 8pm local time, they will face Malaysian Premier League champions Johor Darul Ta'zim, who won all but one of their 24 league games this season, drawing the other in an unbeaten season, and finishing with a goal difference of +107.

The match will take place in the Malaysian city of Iskandar Puteri at the iconic Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, which opened in 2020 and can host up to 40,000 spectators.

Tickets will be available via presale first, from Thursday onwards.

It will be the first time Chelsea have played in Malaysia since 2013 and the first they have ever competed outside of the capital city Kuala Lumpur while in the country.
