Chelsea 'agree' Mykhaylo Mudryk transfer as Arsenal miss out on Shakhtar star amid £88m 'hijack'

Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk on a seven-year deal, according to reports. The forward has been a major target for Arsenal since the summer but the Gunners fell short of meeting the lofty valuation put on him by the Ukrainian club.

The Blues, who have struggled under Graham Potter since losing Reece James in October, have been extremely active in the winter market and are looking to make the 22-year-old their fifth signing of the window already after securing deals for Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos, David Datro Fofana and Joao Felix.

Mudryk would be the biggest coup of the lot though, and the most expensive, with a reported £62m deal with £26m coming in add ons. Arsenal's first two bids fell short of the fee demanded by Shakhtar, who wanted to generate a deal rivalling the prices paid for Jack Grealish and Antony by Manchester City and Manchester United, respectively.

Now, after dispatching Paul Winstanley to try and sort a verbal agreement, the Athletic and Fabrizio Romano are both reporting that a deal has been agreed between the two parties. It is also said that his medical at Cobham has been arranged and that he will be in London on Saturday night.

The player has consistently hinted at his desire to join Arsenal since initial talks were held over the summer. Mudryk has stood out in the Champions League this season with Shakhtar and now appears to be tasked with reigniting the Blues attack.

Graham Potter could yet add Noni Madueke and Marcus Thuram to his arsenal this window, with the Gunners now having to revaluate their January transfer priorities.
