A University of Kentucky cheerleader who police say gave birth to a baby and hid its dead body in a garbage bag in a closet is out on bond.

Laken Snelling, 21, posted $100,000 bond and was released after pleading not guilty to charges including abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence.

Snelling is under "home incarceration" and is to live with her parents, LEX 18 reported. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 26. The cause of the baby's death is pending autopsy results from the Fayette County Coroner.

Police were called to a residence on Aug. 27 regarding an unresponsive baby that was found in a closet. According to LEX 18, Snelling "admitted to concealing the birth by cleaning any evidence, placing all cleaning items used inside of a black trash bag, including the infant, who was wrapped in a towel."

In a statement to LEX 18, the University of Kentucky confirmed that Snelling was a student and a cheerleader at the school: "We can confirm that she has been a member of the STUNT team for the last three seasons. All other questions should be directed to the Lexington Police."
