Cheapest UK cities for an Airbnb summer staycation

If you are looking for a holiday in the UK this summer and avoid the cost of a foreign trip, there are a number of UK cities that can provide a more affordable break. The cost of living crisis is making people check every penny they spend, price, as well as quality, becomes even more important.

A holiday to Aberdeen in Scotland has been named the best and most affordable UK staycation destination in the UK, based on Airbnb ratings and average nightly stay prices. Insurtech and Airbnb specialist company Pikl Insurance, analysed Airbnb data to discover the most affordable and best rated places to visit this July and August in the UK.

The data reveals the top 10 cheapest cities to visit, alongside their best rated attractions, so you can decide which budget city break spot might suit you.

1 Aberdeen, Scotland

Aberdeen is known for its cultural tours, coastal walks, and castle properties. A great city for a mix of modern and historical elements, Aberdeen has everything from bustling bars and clubs, to museums and history tours.

2 St Asaph, Wales

St Asaph is a great getaway for those needing a break from busy inner-city life. With lovely waterside walks and plenty of pubs, this is a great destination for those wanting a more quiet and traditional staycation.

3 Kingston Upon Hull

Kingston Upon Hull was 2017’s UK City of Culture, making it clear that this city is a hub of interesting attractions; from museums to historical landmarks. Home to the Streetlife Museum of Transport and award-winning aquarium ‘The Deep’, Kingston Upon Hull is great for an educational family trip.

4 Londonderry, Northern Ireland

Whilst it may take those in England and Scotland a flight to get there, those based in Northern Ireland should try a trip to Londonderry this summer. 8 Leeds

Fantastic for a young group of friends or a couple, this West Yorkshire city boasts excellent nightlife, from 5-star clubs to award-winning bars and restaurants. Leeds has an endless amount of things to do including escape rooms, bowling alleys, riverboat meals, and even ghost hunting.

9 Wakefield

Just around the corner from Leeds, Wakefield is a great place to act as a base for day-trips to Leeds, but also boasts a selection of family friendly activities and things to do of its own. Home to the National Coal Mining Museum and Yorkshire Sculpture Park, there’s lots to take in for kids and adults alike.

10 Leicester

Full of pubs, parks and a whole lot of history, Leicester is another affordable family friendly city-break you won’t want to miss out on. You can visit King Richard III’s final resting place, The National Space Centre, and the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery all in a day or spread them out throughout your stay. The city is also home to the popular ‘Curve Theatre’ and has plenty of parks for sunny day walks.
