'Cheapest house in Wales' sells for £180,000 less than the average in its area

A one-bedroom terraced house has become 'the cheapest house in Wales' after selling at auction for £14,000 more than it's asking price.

Located in Blaenau Gwent, the mid-terrace cottage had a guide price of £32,000, and received 32 bids over the course of two days, Wales Online reports.

The online sale was dominated by five bidders, who saw the property's potential, despite the fact it needs considerable work.

As well as a single bedroom, it has a small, interconnected annexe, and the potential to become a well-connected house, conveniently located to the A465 Heads of the Valley road.

It sold for a mere fraction of the average house price in Wales of £226,577, and much less than the average house price in Blaenau Gwent of £126,691, according to the Principality Building Society.

Gemma Vaughan, of Newport-based Paul Fosh Auctions who was managing the sale of the property, told Wales Online : "This endearing one bedroom cottage style property, at 245 King Street, Brynmawr, offers much potential.

"The property does require full renovation but offers scope for extending (subject to the relevant planning consent).

"It would make an ideal investment for those looking to renovate and resell, or even those looking for Buy to Let."

The house also has a lounge, dining room kitchen and shower room on the ground floor.

There is a reasonably sized back garden, as well as off-road parking.
