Charlie Lindsay completes Rangers transfer as Ross Wilson hypes up in-demand teenager

Rangers have confirmed the arrival of teenager Charlie Lindsay from Glentoran.

The 16-year-old has penned a professional contract with the Ibrox club having previously featured for the youth team as a guest.

It was revealed earlier this year the club had agreed a deal to sign the midfielder after being named player of the tournament at the prestigious Al-Kass Cup in Qatar.

Lindsay is the youngest player ever to play in the Northern Irish top-flight, making his Glentoran debut at just 15 years, four months and 24 days.

Ibrox sporting director Ross Wilson hailed him as "one of the most sought after youngsters" in the UK.

He said: "We are really excited that Charlie will join Rangers upon the transfer window opening and international clearance being received.

“Charlie is one of the most sought after youngsters in the United Kingdom and we are delighted that he sees Rangers as the best place for him to continue in the development of his undoubted talent.

“We are now establishing strong ways of working in our scouting and recruitment teams across the first team and the academy therefore it’s important that all of our staff have a vision that is clear as we position ourselves as a club that is ambitious to recruit the most talented academy aged players in the UK.

“We know that as a club we are hugely respected in Northern Ireland and our scouting presence in the country represents us exceptionally well.

"That vision starts with young players in Scotland but within our strategy we have identified other markets that we need to be extremely strong in and Northern Ireland is undoubtedly one of those.”

Rangers fans were first introduced to Lindsay back in February with his performances in Qatar as he was named man of the match in four of his five appearances.

He pipped prospects from the likes of the Real Madrid and Inter Milan to be selected as the tournament's top performer.
