Charlie Daniels dead: Country singer dies aged 83 after suffering a stroke

Country singer Charlie Daniels has died after he suffered from a stroke.

The American was aged 83 when he died in hospital in Hermitage, Tennessee.

His publicist Don Murry Grubbs broke the sad news to the world in a statement as he confirmed the star had died after a hemorrhagic stroke.

Charlie was best known for his country hit The Devil Went Down to Georgia.

The rocker made history when he became part of the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016.

His high-flying musical career went back to when he started out in the 1950s.

Charlie had a mild stroke in January 2010.

The musician later had a heart pacemaker fitted in 2013.

But the singer showed no signs of slowing down as he continued to perform his music.

Charlie sadly confirmed he hoped to perform in September at the Volunteer Jam in March, months before his death.

He had hoped to join 20 acts in performing on stage for fans.

His confirmation was released in March despite concerns about the coronavirus pandemic beginning to snowball.

His wife Hazel and son Charlie Jr have survived him.

He was married to Hazel from 1963 until his death in 2020.
