Charlie Adam blasts 'narrow-minded' Celtic fans as he fires warning over box-office candidates

Charlie Adam claims every Celtic fan would be happy if Neil Lennon is named the club's next permanent manager.

The former Rangers star reckons a section of the Parkhead club's support is guilty of being 'narrow-minded' over Brendan Rodgers' exit and the subsequent return of Lennon.

Adam insists the Premiership champions would be taking a massive risk by appointing a manager who has no knowledge of the Scottish game.

Box-office candidates like Jose Mourinho, Rafa Benitez and Andre Villas-Boas have been linked with the Celtic job but Adam is in no doubt the current interim boss is the only logical choice to take Celtic forward.

Lennon will secure the treble Treble if the Hoops defeat Hearts in the Scottish Cup Final on Saturday.

Adam told BBC 5 Live: "There are a lot of good managers out there.

"But do they understand Celtic football club? Do they have the experience of managing a big club like Celtic? It's very difficult.

"I back Neil Lennon on this because he's been told to do a job.

Rafa Benitez is the man Celtic need if they want to make a statement insists Craig Burley

"Brendan left in circumstances that he wanted to go to Leicester which was very hurtful to a lot of supporters, but they were narrow-minded supporters.

"You have got to look at the bigger picture, Leicester is a wonderful football club. It's going in the right direction, spending a lot of money and has good training facilities.

"For Lennon, he is the obvious candidate.

"He's been told to take over the reins. He's done that. Okay, he's been beaten by Rangers, but that would be one of the issues with the younger supporters.

"I don't think any fan would complain about Lennon walking into the job in the summer. The job Lennon has done justifies him getting the job."
