Charles de Gaulle and the French Resistance: History in the spotlight at Cannes

arts24 © FRANCE 24

As one of the world's largest film events, some 140 nationalities are represented at the Cannes Film Festival. This year, however, local talent is front and centre, with a strong showing of French productions and co-productions. We also discuss the dark and chilling "Gentle Monster", starring Léa Seydoux and Catherine Deneuve, directed by Marie Kreuzer.

Meanwhile, 20th-century history is a major theme at this year's festival, with a new, big-budget biopic of Charles de Gaulle and a moving take on the life of World War II resistant Jean Moulin.
