Charlene White emotional as she celebrates nine years since making ITV history

Charlene White opened up on becoming the first Black woman to present ITV News at Ten on Thursday's Loose Women.

Talking to panellists Denise Welch, Sophie Morgan and Dame Kelly Holmes, she said: "I was talking about an anniversary this week as well, it's been nine years since I first presented ITV News at 10.

As a clip of Charlene presenting the news aired, she added: "I haven't seen that footage in a very long time."

"Did you think you'd be on it that long?" Kelly asked and the news anchor replied: "No, actually and I didn't know I'd made history until a couple of days after but I remember when I did I just wanted to get it right and that's why I posted about that on Instagram because I like to be honest about moments like that."

Charlene shared her proud moment with her co-stars (ITV)

"I was really nervous and worried that if I messed up, I'd never get a chance to do it again and they'd take it away from me. I know lots of other Black women who have done the job that I have done who have made little mistakes and have never been used again and I didn't want that to happen," she continued.

"I had no idea that all these years later I would still be doing that and get to do this so I just wanted to celebrate that because it was a really proud moment."

Earlier this month, Charlene shared pictures presenting News at 10 on Instagram with the caption: "This was nine years ago this week!

"Look at my little baby face. It’s the 9th anniversary of me doing my first ever shift co-presenting ITV News At Ten with Mark Austin… and making history.

"I can’t begin to tell you how nervous I was that day. I’d worked so so hard to get to that point, I didn’t want to mess up and it never happen again. I felt the pressure maaaaan. But thankfully it went smoothly. Phew.

"So much in my life has changed in the 9 years since this happened. But I remember this day like it was yesterday, and I’ll be forever thankful."
