Radio host Charlamagne tha God responded strongly to President Donald Trump’s recent social media attacks, using his Monday broadcast to defend himself and criticize the administration’s approach to handling dissent. The co-host of The Breakfast Club radio show labeled Trump as “Donkey of the Day” and accused the president of employing authoritarian tactics against critics.
According to Politico, the conflict began after Charlamagne appeared on Fox News’ My View with Lara Trump, where he discussed how “the least of us are still being impacted the worst” under the current administration. He also referenced the ongoing controversy surrounding the release of information about Jeffrey Epstein’s death, suggesting it was creating divisions between the GOP and its supporters.
Following the Fox News appearance, Trump took to Truth Social to call Charlamagne a “racist sleazebag,” prompting the radio host to address the insult directly during his show. Charlamagne, whose real name is Lenard McKelvey, defended his comments and pointed out that he had not mentioned race during his appearance on Lara Trump’s show.
Charlamagne addresses Trump’s broken campaign promises
During Monday’s broadcast, Charlamagne systematically addressed Trump’s Truth Social post and highlighted what he sees as unfulfilled campaign promises. He criticized the president for calling him a “dope” and accused the administration of using authoritarian strategies against anyone who speaks out.

The radio host specifically challenged Trump’s economic record, describing the current state as worse than promised during the campaign. He pointed to Trump’s decision to fire Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer after disappointing monthly jobs reports as evidence of the administration’s mishandling of economic issues.
Charlamagne also connected the poor employment numbers to earlier government workforce reductions, stating that Trump “let Elon Musk take a chainsaw to the federal government and fire a bunch of government workers earlier this year.” He compared Trump’s current approach to economic messaging to that of the previous Biden administration, suggesting both administrations tried to convince Americans the economy was performing better than reality indicated.
Despite his criticisms, Charlamagne concluded his response by expressing support for Trump’s success as president. He emphasized his desire to see America succeed regardless of who occupies the White House, stating he wants Trump to “end wars,” maintain border security, and achieve economic growth. However, he cautioned that the president needs to remain focused rather than getting distracted by media criticism, echoing concerns he’s previously raised about Trump’s relationship with mainstream media..
