Charity run by bet365 tycoon Denise Coates donates £1 million to Ukraine appeal

A charity run by bet365 founder Denise Coates has donated £1 million to help families in Ukraine.

The Denise Coates Foundation supports local, national and international causes by funding charitable projects around the world.

The charity aims to address key areas including health and wellbeing, education and training, medical research and development, disaster recovery and emergency relief as well as community, arts and culture.

Now it has donated £1 million to the DEC Ukraine Appeal which is helping to provide water, food, shelter and medical assistance to desperate families who have fled Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.

A spokesperson for the Denise Coates Foundation, said: "We are pleased to be able to make this donation to the DEC Ukraine Appeal at this crucial time for the people of Ukraine and to be able to support, in some way, efforts to help those affected by the crisis via the provision of food, water, shelter and medical assistance provided by the DEC member charities."

The Denise Coates Foundation was originally launched as the bet365 Foundation in August 2012, but changed its name in 2016.

Over the years it has supported a variety of international causes including a £10 million donation to the University Hospitals of North Midlands during the Covid-19 pandemic.

All of the charitable donations made by the foundation come from entities within the bet365 group.

In 2020/21 the charity received a £100 million donation from the online gambling business.
