Charges laid over Queensland siege and street fight that ended with gunshot

A 32-year-old man has been charged over Monday's incident on a busy Rockhampton street.

Two men and a woman have been charged following a Rockhampton siege that came days after a street fight that ended with a gun being fired.

Police say negotiators were called to a home on Reservoir Street in Gracemere at about 4:00pm yesterday.

"Police have made contact with that male person who has then made threats and stated he wasn't coming out," Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey said.

"As a result cordons were set and police negotiators were called in to negotiate the surrender of that male person.

"Fortunately that male person surrendered without further incident."

Police say 27-year-old Daniel James Godfrey surrendered just after 8:00pm and was charged with two counts each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving unlicensed.

He was also charged with one count each of serious assault police, stealing, receiving tainted property, fail to comply with duties of driver involved in a crash, and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 19-year-old woman who was also at the Gracemere home was arrested and charged with a serious assault against police.

Shot fired

Police say they wanted to speak to Mr Godfrey in relation to a fight alleged to have occurred at a busy Rockhampton intersection earlier this week that ended with a shot being fired into the area.

Detective Senior Peachey said police understood Mr Godfrey could assist police with their inquiries into the Fitzroy Street incident.

Police attended his home to execute a Return to Prison Warrant about half an hour after a 32-year-old man was arrested at a North Rockhampton service station yesterday afternoon.

Police say a loaded firearm was found in the vehicle the 32-year-old was driving when he was arrested.

Hayden John Nitz has been charged with one count each of dangerous conduct with a weapon, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing drug utensils, unlawful possession of weapons, authority required to possess explosives and failing to properly dispose of a syringe.

He was also charged with three counts of evading police.

Police say both of the men arrested were known to each other.

The man and woman involved in the initial incident are yet to be located.

The cases were mentioned in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court this morning, with both adjourned until October.

The defendants were remanded in custody.
