Chargers’ Joey Bosa expresses optimism regarding Derwin James’ injury

The Chargers are likely to be without their star safety Derwin James for a reasonable amount of time due to a foot injury.

While many are not too thrilled about the news, defensive end Joey Bosa suggested there was reason for optimism regarding James.

“It’s a bummer. I think we got some pretty good news today. I’m not exactly sure of his situation, but I don’t think it will be too serious,” Bosa said.

Without providing much detail, the former Ohio State product made it sound like James’ injury won’t be as serious as many reports are suggesting.

Bosa is not the evaluator to have final say and determine how long he will be out, but he has been on that boat before. Bosa suffered a bruised left foot during training camp a year ago, which kept him out for the first nine games of the regular season.

Bosa said he spoke to James and even suggested the foot doctor that treated his foot injury in 2018, Dr. Robert Anderson.

While James’ absence will be critical to their path to the Super Bowl, the team has shown that they can win games without their best players. Los Angeles was 7-2 without Bosa last season, which is one that resulted in a 12-4 record and a trip to the playoffs for the first time since 2013.
