The controversy involving Chappell Roan and an 11-year-old fan escalated this week after an alleged security guard involved in the incident released a public statement.
Pascal Duvier addressed the situation on Instagram on Wednesday, 25 March, four days after soccer star Jorginho raised concerns about his daughter being confronted at a São Paulo hotel.
Pascal Duvier's Statement
In his Instagram post, Duvier said he takes full responsibility for the interactions on 21 March. He clarified that he was acting independently and was not part of Roan's personal security team or management. 'The actions I took were not on behalf of Chappell Roan, her personal security team, her management, or any other individuals,' he wrote.
Duvier explained that his actions were informed by information obtained from the hotel, events he had witnessed in previous days, and what he described as a heightened security risk at the location.
He emphasised that his interaction with the mother was calm and carried out with good intentions, but he expressed regret over the outcome. His statement aimed to clarify that any perceived aggression was his responsibility alone.
Chappell Roan Addresses Incident
Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, issued a video on 22 March to address the incident. She emphasised that she did not see the mother or child and did not authorise any security action. 'I did not even see a woman and a child. No one came up to me, no one bothered me,' she said in her Instagram Stories. She added that the security personnel had no reason to assume anyone present had bad intentions.
A spokesperson for Roan also released a statement, noting that the Grammy nominee holds her teams to the highest standards. 'Chappell was not aware of any interaction between this mother or daughter and a third-party security office,' the spokesperson said. The statement reiterated that Roan has zero tolerance for aggressive behaviour towards fans.
Ada Law and Mother Share Their Account
Jorginho's daughter, Ada Law, and her mother Catherine Harding, also known as Cat Cavelli, shared their version of events in an Instagram video. Harding said she and her family were having breakfast when Ada noticed a woman with long curly red hair walking by and asked if it could be Roan.
Ada then went to a nearby garden area to confirm the identity of the pop star, without taking a phone or attempting to photograph or approach her.
After returning to the table, Harding said that the security guard approached them and spoke in a 'very aggressive tone,' allegedly berating the child and claiming she was badly educated.
Harding noted that the guard was not hotel security and was uncertain whether he was personally affiliated with Roan. She expressed concern that he may have overstepped his boundaries due to his intimidating presence.
Background on Fan Boundaries
The incident comes amid Roan's ongoing efforts to maintain boundaries between herself, fans, and paparazzi. Earlier in March, the singer publicly criticised a group of photographers and admirers who gathered outside a restaurant where she was dining, calling their behaviour harassing.
The heightened sensitivity around fan interactions may have influenced the guard's approach, according to statements released by all parties involved.
Public Attention and Timeline
The story quickly gained traction online, sparking debate about celebrity security measures and the safety of young fans. The interaction took place at the hotel on 21 March. Roan addressed the situation publicly, and Ada's mother shared her perspective on social media on 22 March. Duvier posted his statement accepting full responsibility for the encounter on 25 March.
The incident has drawn attention to the responsibilities of celebrity security and the importance of clear protocols when children are involved.
