Channel 4 Countdown viewers issue demand as Les Dennis replaces Anne Robinson

Countdown viewers issued a demand as Les Dennis took over as host.

The popular Channel 4 programme has been on the lookout for a new permanent presenter since Anne Robinson stood down. Colin Murray has been temporarily hosting the show, but was forced to pull out of today's show after he tested positive for coronavirus.

Les was drafted in to fill in for the 5 Live presenter and will continue to front the show until August 15. The former Family Fortunes presenter was joined by Rachel Riley, Susie Dent and Coronation Street's Daniel Brocklebank on Thursday's episode.

Contestants Quinn and Shane engaged in a tense battle of wits to see who would be today's winner. Quinn eventually triumphed as he built up 102 points after a superb performance.

Les thanked his co-hosts at the end of the episode for helping him through today's show. The 68-year hails from Garston and his hosting stint was a hit with fans who claimed he should be given the job full time.

Sam said: "Strongly believe @LesDennis should do this full-time!"

Caroline added: "Can you stay as host, best show for ages"

Chloe posted: "Les I thought you were brilliant, exactly what the show needs from a host. Give him the gig guys, you know it makes sense!"

Phillip tweeted : "Really enjoy watching you host, @LesDennis. Hope to see more of you in the chair in the future"

Binky commented: "Les Dennis is a refreshing change of host, although temporary. I wish he could stay for a long time - he’s great!"
