Championship transfer news: Bojan avaliable on a free, Lucas Joao agrees move

The transfer deadline is almost upon us with less than two days until the summer transfer window slams shut.

Championship clubs are racing against the clock to strengthen their teams before Thursday’s 5pm deadline, after which, each club will have to go with what they have until January.

We’re not quite at that point just yet, though, and clubs up and down the league are still racing to get deals done.

On that note, here is the latest round-up of transfer news and rumours surrounding the second tier.

Rooney joins Derby

We have to start with the most surprising transfer news of the week, and perhaps even the whole window.

Wayne Rooney has agreed to join Derby County on an 18-month deal as a player/coach.

The former Manchester United forward will move from DC United in January, after the end of the current MLS season.

Tykes chase record deal

Sky Sports report Barnsley have submitted a club-record bid for Legia Warsaw striker Sandro Kulenovic.

Kulenovic is a 19-year-old striker, who scored four times in 15 appearances last season.

Barnsley’s current club record is £1.5m.

Brentford in talks over Taylor

Brentford are looking to strike a deal with Charlton for striker Lyle Taylor.

The Bees lost Neal Maupay to Brighton on Monday and Taylor is being eyed up as a potential replacement.

The 29-year-old scored Charlton’s winner against Blackburn last weekend.

Stoke part ways with Bojan

Stoke City have agreed to cancel the contract of former Barcelona forward Bojan Krkic.

Bojan has been with Stoke since 2014, but he now becomes a free agent and is tipped to join Montreal Impact in MLS.

Reading agree Joao deal

Reading have agreed a deal worth up to £7m to sign Sheffield Wednesday striker Lucas Joao.

The Portuguese frontman actually scored in Wednesday’s win over Reading at the Madejski Stadium on the weekend.

And he is now set to return, swapping blue stripes for hoops.
