Championship clubs push for decision at EFL meeting that will boost Bristol City, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United

Championship clubs are said to be at a consensus that the league season should be completed.

The EFL meet today to discuss the next steps following last week's suspension of the season due to the coronavirus.

Whilst fixtures are currently scheduled to get under way again on April 3, there is pessimism from many that the outbreak will have lessened enough by then in order to resume, particularly with experts predicting the peak of the virus will not be until June.

It has left a debate over how the EFL should proceed, with there currently being three main options - to cancel the league, to finish it as the table currently stands, or to press on and complete the season whenever that may be.

The Daily Mail report that there is a consensus from Championship clubs that the season must be finished, even if it means playing behind closed doors.

Clubs held initial talks over the phone yesterday ahead of today's meeting, and the majority want matches to continue.

Championship sides are reportedly willing to play behind closed doors due to restrictions on mass gatherings and stream the matches on iFollow.

Season ticket holders would get free access to the streams, whilst others would be able to purchase passes to watch them.

This would also allow clubs to bring in some revenue following the loss of gate receipts.

The plan to continue would be a boost to Bristol City, who sit just one point outside the play-off places with nine games left this season.

If the season had been cancelled, or the table was deemed complete, it would have seen the Robins miss out after eight months of hard work.

The position outlined also backs up what Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear and QPR manager Mark Warbuton have both said in the last couple of days.
