Challenge laid out for Nottingham Forest youngster as he aims to impress

Nottingham Forest midfielder Tyrese Fornah is eager to keep making the most of his loan spell at Shrewsbury Town.

The 22-year-old has been in fine form for the League One outfit since making the move in January. He has made 13 appearances so far, and put in another standout display in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Lincoln City.

Fornah is highly regarded at the City Ground as one of the latest crop of young talent to come up through the Nigel Doughty Academy. But he had been struggling for game time prior to linking up with Steve Cotterill’s side, with his three run-outs for the Reds this term coming while Chris Hughton was still in charge.

"Every game means a lot to me,” he told the club’s website. “I want to come in and do well, not just for myself, but for the gaffer who believes in me and the club as a whole and the fans. The gaffer says to me I've got to keep doing what I'm doing, giving my all for the fans."

Forest director of professional development Gary Brazil recently watched Fornah in action, and the youngster has also earned praise from Cotterill. He says it was a tough afternoon against the Imps, though.

“First half was a bit tough and I think at half-time, we as a group – the gaffer and the coaching staff included – we said we needed to up (our level) a bit because when we get going physically not many teams can match us,” Fornah added. “So we upped it in the second half and that’s the performance that we should be giving.

“The heat is coming on strong now and some of us, me included, were a bit dehydrated when we came in at half-time, so we just got the fluids going and just kept going in the second half. When we play like that – and we’ve been playing like that for a while – not many teams can handle us.”
