Chad Thomas carted off from Browns practice with neck injury

Monday’s practice session in Berea was interrupted by a scary moment. Defensive end Chad Thomas suffered an injury to his shoulder and neck area and was taken off the field on a cart.

Thomas was immobilized by trainers after the collision, and he was taken to University Hospital for precautionary evaluation. Teammates knelt and prayed around Thomas, and the normally loud music was shut off as trainers tended to the second-year defender.

Coach Freddie Kitchens offered an encouraging update after practice at his media session,

“He’s at the hospital just getting further testing, but he’s moving all of his extremities and everything,” Kitchens said. “Just a precautionary (measure) to make sure everything’s okay. Anytime something happens like a stinger or anything dealing with any issues like that, you want to be more cautious than anything, and that’s what we’re doing.”

Thomas has had a solid training camp. Working primarily with the second team, he’s made some plays as a pass rusher and seems more willing to get physical.

Stay tuned for further updates on Thomas’ status.
