Pete Fiutak of College Football News recently previewed the Georgia Bulldogs for the upcoming 2020 season and ranked UGA’s top-five offensive players.
Here’s how he ranked them:
1. WR George Pickens
On Pickens, Fiutak said:
The 6-3, 190-pounder has the size, the speed, and the next-level talent to become a volume-catcher along with a deep threat. Decent throughout last year, he failed to come up with a 100-yard game until the Sugar Bowl win over Baylor, ripping it up with 12 catches for 175 yards and one score.
2. QB Jamie Newman
Jamie Newman comes to Athens as a graduate transfer from Wake Forest. Already viewed as a high draft pick and a Heisman hopeful, Newman brings a run threat that Georgia has not had in 15 years. Newman started one full season for Wake, and that was last year. In 2019, he completed 220 of 361 passes (61%) for 2,868 yards and 26 touchdowns. On the ground, he ran for 574 yards and six touchdowns.
3. RB Zamir White
A former five-star out of Laurinburg, North Carolina, White looks like he’s ready to shine now that the backfield has cleared out for the first time since his arrival in Athens. After tearing his ACL two times in the span of a year, White’s had a rough start to his collegiate career, but showed flashes of greatness last year. In 2019, White played in 13 of 14 games and finished the season with 408 yards on 78 carries which was third-best among all rushers.
4. OL Ben Cleveland
Georgia’s offensive line will look very different than it did last year after the Dawgs lost four starters from last year’s line.
Thankfully, Georgia does return redshirt senior Ben Cleveland, who is set to be a leader on Matt Luke’s new offensive line in Athens.
Cleveland came to Georgia as a five-star prospect in the class of 2016, and has 16 starts under his belt. He has appeared in 36 games, though.
Cole Cubelic of the SEC Network recently ranked Cleveland as the SEC’s third best returning offensive guard for the 2020 college football season.
Cleveland trailed only Tennessee’s Trey Smith and Alabama’s Deonte Brown.
5. OL Jamaree Salyer
Salyer committed to Georgia as a five-star prospect in the class of 2018 out of Pace Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. In two seasons, he has seen action in 26 games. With the departure of four starters from last season’s offensive line, Salyer will be expected to be a leader on the line thisseason.
When he signed with Georgia, he checked in at 342 pounds. According to this tweet he is now down to 315.
The tweet was posted by Big Dawgs Club, an offensive lineman training program.
Salyer’s new look caught the eye of Kirby Smart, who responded to the tweet. Big Dawgs Club responded to Kirby’s tweet and said that Salyer will report back to UGA at 308 pounds.
