Cesar Azpilicueta to help pay Neil Warnock's fine after Chelsea offside goal

Cesar Azpilicueta has offered to help pay for Neil Warnock's fine after Chelsea's controversial late goal against Cardiff .

Defender Azpilicueta claimed an equaliser while in an offside position with five minutes to go at the Cardiff City Stadium in March, before Ruben Loftus-Cheek netted a winner.

Bluebirds boss Warnock was furious with the decision and showed his dissent by firstly standing off with referee Craig Pawson before ranting during his post-match interviews.

Warnock said at the time: “Against the big teams, you have to have VAR because you don't get the big decisions.

“The equalising goal is the winning goal really, and if you can't see across the line and see offside I don't know why we are in the game.”

As such, Warnock was handed a £20,000 fine from the FA for his comments.

And Azpilicueta, obviously feeling a little guilty for his part in the fine, has joked he may pay a slice of the punishment.

"We talk in private about this," the Spaniard said.

"I was there in the middle because I was the one who scored the goal.

"Obviously in the moment, when I score, I just look at the linesman. He didn't put the flag up.

"I knew I could be on the edge of the offside position, it's what I thought at the moment.

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock hit with £20,000 fine for Chelsea referee rant

"I cannot ignore that I was in the offside position. I'm sure [VAR] will help everybody, will help the referees and will help every team to get the right decisions.

"I'm sorry for him - but, for one goal that I score this season!"

Warnock responded by saying: “They got winning bonuses which they all know they shouldn’t have got,” said Warnock. “I’m not saying it would be justice, but it would be nice of him to do it.”

Cardiff fans have already dipped into the pockets after a crowd funding was set up - but only £580 had been pledged at the time of writing.
