CES 2019: Apple and Samsung team up in new TV partnership

Samsung sprang a surprise ahead of the CES technology show by announcing a new TV partnership with rival Apple.

Apple’s iTunes Movies and TV Shows app and AirPlay 2 connection will be introduced on Samsung smart TVs later this year.

Viewers will be able to use iPhones and iPads to stream content to the TVs.

Samsung’s executive vice president for its visual display business, Won-Jin Lee said the partnership would bring more “content, value and open platform functionality” to customers of both companies and was “ideal for everyone”.

Apple’s Eddy Cue said of the announcement that through Samsung smart TVs, “iPhone, iPad and Mac users have yet another way to enjoy all their favourite content on the biggest screen in their home”.
