Central belt drinkers leave pubs for the final time as 16-day coronavirus restrictions are enforced

Central belt pubgoers have been spilling out of their favourite boozers for the last time for the next two weeks at least this evening.

New coronavirus rules mean that licensed pubs and restaurants in Scotland must have their doors shut to the public from 6pm.

It is hoped that bars and restaurants in the area will be able to reopen once again on Monday, October 26.

Drinkers will not be able to visit licensed premises in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Lothian, Lanarkshire, Forth Valley and Ayrshire & Arran during this time.

Punters have been leaving pubs across the central belt as they drank in the last of the pub experience on Friday evening.

Hospitality in the rest of the country will be allowed to remain open between 6am and 6pm during this 16 day period, but they will not be allowed to serve alcohol indoors

Pubs will be able to serve alcoholic drinks outdoors, in areas such as beer gardens, until 10pm every evening.

Pool halls, indoor bowling, casinos and bingo halls are also among a range of other businesses which have been ordered to close from tomorrow in the central belt.

The Scottish Government says it is aiming to bring down the number of new coronavirus infections with the new rules.

Nicola Sturgeon confirmed a further 1,246 new cases of the virus on Friday.

Six people were also reported to have died after testing positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

Police Scotland has deployed additional officers on the central belt to ensure that the new rules are being followed by people and businesses.
