Cenk Tosun makes Everton result admission after Andre Gomes injury

Cenk Tosun has admitted that he wishes he didn't score and Everton had lost 5-0 if it meant that Andre Gomes didn't suffer his sickening injury against Tottenham .

Turkish striker Tosun netted a 97th minute equaliser as the Toffees shared the points with Spurs at Goodison Park.

But the result was overshadowed by former Barcelona star Gomes' horrific injury in the second half - after he was challenged by Son Heung-min and collided with Serge Aurier.

Son was sent off, having originally been shown a yellow card, and left inconsolable while Gomes was treated.

The Toffees midfielder was taken away on a stretcher and immediately placed in an ambulance before being rushed to hospital.

Tosun's thoughts after the game was solely on his teammate and confessed that he wished he hadn't scored - having cradled Gomes' head while he writhed around in pain.

"You win, you draw, you lose but all that doesn’t matter when something like this happens," Tosun, who was in tears after the final whistle, wrote on Instagram.

"I wish I didn’t score, I wish we lost 0-5 and this didn’t happen. I know you will come back stronger bro and we will be there for you."

Tosun added to reporters: “Everybody is sad inside. Some players cried. Andre was in shock, his eyes were open so big. He was like crying, shouting and screaming.

“I just went over to him and tried to hold him and speak to him; I tried to tell him to stay calm. We could never understand it. He was the one who had got the injury.”

There were also tears in the Tottenham dressing room as Son was left distraught by his tackle.

Dele Alli revealed: "Didn’t want to look too much at what happened. I want to send best wishes.

"Son is devastated and in tears. It’s not his fault. Son is one of nicest people you’ve ever met. He can’t even lift his head up, he’s crying so much.

"The injury does play on your mind but you have to stay professional."
