Celtics’ Jayson Tatum named East Player of the Week for Jan. 4 -10

The Boston Celtics announced via press release that All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum has been named East Player of the Week for games played between Jan. 4 and 10.

A small consolation for the Duke product after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier in the week, it is the second time in Tatum’s career he has been awarded the honor. Noting the Missouri native began the week a point shy of his career-high scoring record with a 40-point performance against the Toronto Raptors on the road (and the third 40 or more point game of his career), the team notes he is the first Celtic this season to be so honored.

“His first such award came in February of last season, making him the first Celtics player to capture Player of the Week honors in consecutive seasons since Isaiah Thomas did so in 2015-16 and 2016-17,” they added.

Tatum leads the team in scoring with 26.9 points per game, shooting 47.4%  overall, 43.8% from 3-point range and 88.9% from the line, while pulling down 7.1 rebounds per game, dishing 3.8 assists per contest and averaging 1.0 steal per game over an average of 34.6 minutes per tilt.
