If fans of the Boston Celtics were surprised by the fight put up by the Detroit Pistons despite their record losing streak, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla was very much not. “Just because they’re 2-and-whatever, it doesn’t mean that they haven’t been in 10 close games that they could have won if the ball bounced their way,” said Mazzulla postgame via The Athletic’s Jared Weiss.
Acknowledging the frustration such struggles can elicit, the Celtics coach said that “feelings are fleeting” and “if you want to win, you have to play better.” Seemingly simple advice, but also advice that is not untrue.
“I expected this to be one of the hardest games of the year, and I like just how our guys responded to it,” he explained. “That’s becoming what we’ve talked about with our team … success looks different every night.”
