Celtics center Tacko Fall out for a week with mild knee sprain

Boston Celtics rookie center Tacko Fall, already a fan favorite though not officially named to the team’s finalize roster, has suffered a mild knee sprain in a collision on a block attempt during the team’s offseason workouts.

He’s expected to be out for a week.

The workouts, which are voluntary at this point in the offseason, have been attended by the rookies from the Celtics’ 2019 draft class as well as veterans like forward Gordon Hayward.

Fall’s attendance is encouraging. It gives him an opportunity to build his chemistry with his potential teammates and work with the team’s coaching staff ahead of the 2019-20.

The 7-foot-7 Senegal native has the potential to be a dominant interior defender due to his size and mobility. His perimeter defense, lower body strength, footwork, ability to shoot free-throws and low-post offense all need work. Truly, he’s a developmental prospect.

Nonetheless, his work ethic, attitude and chemistry with current Celtics have made him the prohibitive favorite for Boston’s final roster spot.

Now, he just needs to stay healthy.

Celtics’ training camp begins on October 1.
